Reality of Part-Time Jobs for International Students in Malaysia.

There is no doubt that part-time job is a great opportunity for international students. It helps improve the student experience and can be the best support for managing study costs. However, if you go to Malaysia for studies, you need to face some challenges regarding part-time jobs.

Legality:
International students are not allowed to work in Malaysia although during holidays, vacations, or semester breaks. Even if students want to work, they need to do so at their own risk. If caught, the Malaysian government can cancel their studentship, impose punishments, or send them back to their home country.

Earning Amount:
If you work at your own risk and secure a job, you can earn around RM 1,200 minimum per month for a regular job. If you get a more demanding job, you can earn around RM 2,500 per month.

Work Hours:
Diploma and bachelor students can work around 2-3 days in a week during the daytime, They can work at night but it is very challenging. Master’s and PhD students can work full-time during the day or night.

Job Availability:
Suitable part-time jobs are usually rare and hard to match with your schedule. Sometimes, even if you manage your time, the employer may not agree to hire you once they know you are a student.

What You Can Cover:
Generally, if you work hard, you may be able to manage your accommodation costs and tuition fees but cannot provide any support to your family. It is really wrong to think that you can support your family too.

Final Thoughts:
Many students work during their studies after facing all challenges. But we suggest that if your family is able to support you, then you are most welcome to study in Malaysia. Otherwise, think 100 times before going to Malaysia for studies. You know, if you concentrate on work, you can’t study properly, and if you concentrate on studying, you can’t work well. Sometimes, some students say they just need a visa. For these students, I have no words to say.
